The Alta Vista Garden - Through Children’s Eyes
A Photographic Essay
CALLING ALL KIDS!
Come, photograph Vista’s ‘almost secret’ garden, and then show off your photos at an exhibition in the Vista Library.

- WHO: Children ages up to and including thirteen years old (by March 1, 2010). You do not have to be a resident of Vista to participate.
- WHAT: Participate in a FREE Through Children’s Eyes Photography and essay project with the Alta Vista Gardens. There is no fee to submit images, and each child can submit up to five high dpi resolution images suitable for enlargements with each photo numbered and titled. A short caption providing details about the image's title and content may accompany each photo. Please try to include the names of the persons in the photos you submit. All photographers will be notified if selected for exhibition and receive a free print of their work .
- WHERE to take pictures: Photos must be taken on the Alta Vista Gardens grounds. Subjects can include the Children’s Garden theme of ‘Bugs, Birds & Butterflies,’ environmental activities such as growing plants, the flowers and trees at AVG, composting, recycling, and water conservation, various scheduled activities at AVG, and the people who volunteer for or visit the Gardens.
- WHERE Exhibited: Exhibition Display to be held at the Vista Library, Children’s Section and at other sites.
- WHEN: Submissions must be entered by midnight February 13, 2010. Exhibition: A selection of photographs will be exhibited during the month of March, 2010.
- HOW: Step by step instructions for submission:
- Take your photos at the Alta Vista Gardens anytime between now and February 10, 2010. Ask permission before photographing visitors to the Gardens (bring a notepad and pen to make notes about the photos for captioning or for writing an essay about the Gardens.)
- Go to the Alta Vista Gardens website. Print and complete the Alta Vista Gardens Through Children's Eyes
Photo Release Form (Parent/Guardian must also sign this form) and turn it in to the librarian at the Children's Desk in the Vista Library.
- Review all your photos and select up to five images. Number each photo and write a short informational caption for each photo. An essay about Alta Vista Gardens is optional.
- Go to the website www.ThroughChildrensEyes.org.
- Go to Contact us and click on the e-mail address link.
- In the SUBJECT line type: AVG TCE and your name, age, school, and number of submissions.
- In the body of the e-mail put your name, age and school, and each caption with the photo numbers and title. If you are submitting an essay, submit it in the same e-mail with the other information.
- Attach up to five images.
- If you have any problems with submissions, send an E-mail to Tartanstar@earthlink.net. In the SUBJECT line type: AVG TCE, your name, and submission problem. In the body of the email, describe the problem.
- WHY: Sharing a glimpse – through children’s eyes - of the beautiful natural and Children’s Gardens, waterfall, ponds, sculptures, panoramic views, the Garden House and the numerous activities taking place at the Alta Vista Gardens, as well as the progress of the current and future Children's Garden within the site. The Alta Vista Gardens is located in Brengle Terrace Park in Vista near the very top of the park. It can be accessed from both the Recreation Center entrance (circle around Brengle Terrace) and the Senior Center entrance (go up the hill).
